Mike was a married twenty-five year old construction worker who had a reputation as a person who worked hard and played hard.  In fact, Mike frequently went out with the guys to the local bar after work for a few drinks.  Mike’s wife, Sandy, didn’t say too much until Mike started coming home after 9:00 every night.  He not only missed dinner with the family but he also missed seeing his two young children before they went to bed.  This went on for about six months and finally Sandy decided to get professional help.  While in counseling she learned about the different forms of help and treatment that were available.  Since she felt she had a strong relationship with Mike, she decided to hire an intervention specialist and undergo an alcoholic intervention with Mike.  Unlike many interventions that fail miserably, this “confrontation” went extremely well.  Mike broke down and admitted that he was afraid of his out-of-control drinking behavior.  He openly agreed to get professional treatment and felt like the weight of the world was lifted from his shoulders.
