Here’s one of the alcohol abuse facts that typically is not much discussed, namely, that excessive drinking costs a lot of money.  This is especially the case if the problem drinker decides to drink at a bar.  Think about how much it must cost if a person drinks excessively at a bar numerous times per week.  Indeed, I have heard about “bar tabs” that reach hundreds of dollars.  Recent research has shown that Americans, as a group, are not placing their money in savings accounts.  What this means is that most Americans live from paycheck to paycheck.  Building on this logic, a person who spends hundreds of dollars per week on drinking is more likely than not taking money from other important aspects of his or her life.  Over time, repeated drinking can leave a person broke at best and destitute at worst.
