Degenerative Disc is also know as spondylosis. As people age the spinal discs between their vertbrae deteriorate. This deterioration occurs as the cartilage get thinner and more fragile. Degenerative disc disease affects three areas: the cervical, lumbar, or thoracic regions of the spine. When the upper spine is affected, it is called cervical disc disease. The mid back area is affected by thoracic disc disease. Lumbago disc disease is when the degenerative disc disease affects the lower back. Some things that increase the risk of degenerative disc disease are smoking, nicotene, cough, and inactivity. Degenerative disc disease can be treated with rest and rehabilitative exercises.
