Although my practical husband considers kerosene lamps an important tool to have around during power outages, I love them for the rustic feel they add.

When we redecorated our cabin in New England, I made sure that each room had an antique kerosene lamp as part of the lighting.

I placed them in the living room, on tables, in the bedrooms, on nightstands, and on the dining room sideboard. When lit, they give off a comforting glow which is softer and warmer than electric.

Of course my husband is happy because we have enough back-up lighting for any emergency. As for me, I just love the way those graceful old lamps look.
