Parenting With An Extra Challenge
Parenting is hard enough, but stepchildren adds an extra challenge because your role is not as defined as the mother or father role usually is. Being a stepmother or stepfather allows for some ambiguity and you get the added conflict that goes along with figuring out something that works in your family. Stepparent families are so different, as are parents and children, and there is no one formula that guarantees success when it comes to step parenting. The first step though is the same as with your other children. You need to listen and figure out what is working in your family, don’t worry too much if you can help it and maybe tread a little more carefully than you otherwise would.
