When A New Labradoodle Puppy Meets Your Older Dog
An Older dog won’t always tolerate a hyperactive puppy. Create some barriers between the dogs until they have had a chance to adjust to each other. Keep a leash on your Labradoodle puppy if the older dog is in the same room.
Let them eat in the same room together, but make sure you supervise them so they don’t try to eat each other’s food. Sometimes, the best time to keep them in the same room is after you’ve exhausted your puppy through playing.
If a puppy is too rambunctious with your older dog, they may give a quick pop with his muzzle or a quick nip as a warning to the puppy. If your puppy runs off and whimpers, don’t to pick them up.
Call your Labradoodle puppy to you when you kneel and, using this time to your advantage, have them run to you for security. Distract your puppy by playing with them or letting themchase you.
Never physically punish your older dog for being impatience with your puppy. They’re simply establishing their rights and letting the puppy know their tolerance level. Your puppy has to learn to respect your older dog’s space. You can verbally admonish your older dog to stop any lack of tolerance.
